Counselling in Sawtry using Psychodynamic Therapy

What is counselling?

Counselling involves talking to someone who is trained to listen. It is a talking therapy that allows individuals to deal with specific life issues. You are given time and space to explore difficult feelings in an environment that is dependable, free from intrusion and confidential.

A counsellor should respect your viewpoint and will not usually give advice. Counselling can help you understand your problems better. It can also give you a better understanding of other people's points of view.

There are different types of counselling - each type has its own theory or human development and its own way of working. It is always good to check that the counsellor is qualified and a member of a professional association such as the BACP.

Here at the Hares Clinic, we offer counselling based on psychodynamic therapy, although other types of theory are often incorporated into the counselling, depending on each individual client.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy focuses on unconscious thought processes which manifest themselves in a client's behaviour. The approach seeks to increase a client's self-awareness and understanding of how the past has influenced present thoughts and behaviours, by exploring their unconscious patterns.

Clients are encouraged to explore unresolved issues and conflicts, and to talk about important people and relationships in their life.
